Difference between low density and high density can liners
Most people we come across are often surprised to know that there are different kinds of trash can liners available in the market. Facility managers end up spending a lot of money because they aren’t aware of all the can liner options available. Knowing the different types of liners available will help you choose the right one for the right purpose, and help you avoid waste and save resources.
There are three main kinds of trash can liners depending on the resins used to manufacture them: linear low-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene, and high-density polyethylene.
High-Density Polyethylene
High-Density Polyethylene is the strongest variety of polyethylene. They are able to withstand extreme temperatures as compared to other varieties. Owing to its strength, high-density polyethylene trash can liners don’t require to be as thick and therefore also need lesser material to construct. As a result, HDPE liners offer excellent value due to lower cost of manufacturing, shipping, and storage.
Low-Density Polyethylene
Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is a great budget alternative for your facility. However, the lower cost leads them to not be as sturdy, dense and tear-resistant. This makes them unsuitable for heavy or bulky waste or waste with jagged ends. These trash can liners are best suited for gentle, low-weight waste that does not require strong liners. Their low durability is the reason they are not as commonly manufactured anymore and are not recommended for facility management purposes.
Linear Low-Density Polyethylene
Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) liners are flexible and offer maximum puncture and tear-resistance. Though used for a variety of purposes, they are ideal for waste involving sharp, rough edges including broken glass. They are widely available as they are the most commonly used liners used on the market.
