Introducing PRO-Techs Antimicrobial Coating in COVID Cleaning
As a facilities manager, whether managing one building or 20, the health and safety of your employees and your clients are always top of mind. And of course, with the COVID-19 pandemic showing signs of another surge with new variants popping up, you need to do everything it takes to help prevent an outbreak in one of your buildings.
Shutting your business down while the space is deep cleaned with specialized COVID cleaning services means not only the expense of cleaning but lost revenue. What if we told you there’s an antimicrobial coating that, when applied after a thorough cleaning and disinfecting can provide up to 90 days of surface protection against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)?
We’re talking about PRO-Techs antimicrobial coating, which we use exclusively. Keep reading to learn why we use it, and how you can save time and money by adding it to your commercial cleaning routine.
PRO-Techs Antimicrobial Coating is in Addition to Regular Cleaning
Before we get into how PRO-Techs antimicrobial coating works, we need to reiterate that it is in addition to and not a replacement for thorough cleaning and disinfecting. Your commercial cleaning company should provide daily cleaning and disinfecting of high touch-point areas such as door handles, faucets, break room areas, etc.
If you have your own employees do the cleaning, as is the case in many restaurants, be sure that they follow strict cleaning and disinfecting protocol as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Guidelines.
Once an area is disinfected, PRO-Techs can be applied to a number of surfaces including high-touch areas such as light switches, door handles, faucets, as well as sinks, tables, counters, desks, locker rooms, exercise equipment, and more. It is also safe to apply to upholstery and fabric.
How PRO-Techs Works
First of all, PRO-Techs should only be applied by trained commercial cleaning professionals to ensure the best outcome. PRO-Techs antimicrobial coating both inhibits growth and kills existing bacteria, fungi, mold, and yeast, as well as the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Get ready for a mini chemistry lesson.
As soon as PRO-Techs is applied, it begins working by forming a 99.9% effective disinfecting barrier that lasts up to 3 months. It has a silane base, which is a compound that anchors and triggers a covalent bond, meaning PRO-Techs to adheres to hard and soft surfaces and become part of the surface.
Once the barrier forms, the 18-carbon chain bed of “micro-swords” puncture and impale any microbe cell membranes. This is the first phase of cell death.
Next, the positively-charged nitrogen atoms in the PRO-Techs antimicrobial coating attract the negative charge in the cell membranes of the microorganisms lurking underneath. The positive electric charge from the nitrogen atoms targets the impaled and punctured microbes. This results in electrocution and cell death at the molecular level.
All of this means, of course, that if we apply PRO-Techs to your hard and soft surfaces, they are protected from the COVID-19 virus, MRSA, Salmonella, Clostridium difficile, Listeria monocytogenes, and a wide spectrum of other bacteria, mold, and fungi. And that protection lasts up to 90 days, meaning you don’t have to disinfect surfaces as often.

What Microorganisms are Thriving in Your Building? Find Out with ATP Testing
Still not convinced that adding PRO-Techs antimicrobial coating is worth the cost and effort? Maybe you think regular disinfecting is enough. But if cleaning and disinfecting isn’t done properly, a lot of pretty gross, yet invisible, stuff can be left behind.
That’s where Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) Testing comes in. ATP is a molecule found in all living cells, including bacteria, viruses, mold, and fungi. An ATP test should be performed after disinfecting surfaces to determine what your disinfecting protocol is leaving behind.
Testing involves using a specialized swab to take a sample from a surface. If ATP is present, it causes an enzymatic reaction resulting in bioluminescence. A luminometer is used to measure the degree of ATP present.
The CDC recommends ATP testing especially for healthcare facilities, but it can be beneficial for restaurants and any facility worried about preventing the spread of illness. There are 3 key recommendations:
- Establish baseline ATP testing results. Then measure routine testing results against the baseline.
- Test high contact areas after disinfecting.
- Establish a sample size of your facility to test.
