Unusual but Effective Cleaning Tips

With International Skeptics Day just behind us, here are some cleaning tips that are unusual but work. Skeptical? Try them for yourself.

Oil or grease stains on clothing can be extremely resistant to the best laundry detergents. Use equal parts dish soap and baby powder to break up the grease and get your clothes clean.

Using windshield water repellant on your shower doors helps make them resistant to soap scum and hard water buildups on the glass.

Use enough water to make cornstarch into a paste, and it makes a wonderful silver polish.

Thinly slice and remove the seeds from either lemons or limes to help keep odor out of your garbage disposal. No bleach or special cleaners needed.

Mix even parts vinegar and water to get rid of hard water stains on sinks and counters. If you have a buildup of grime or grease add baking soda to make it a paste. Scrub it on the surface then use a sponge or microfiber towel to clean it off and polish the surface.

Run your air vents through the dishwasher to clean them. Keeping the vents clean will limit the amount of dust they can blow throughout your home.

Juice a lemon into a bowl. Add the rinds and fill the bowl halfway with water. Microwave the bowl for 3 minutes on high. You will find stuck on food is loosened enough to easily clean out of the microwave, and the oven itself will be lemony fresh!

Keep your blender fresh by putting a few drops of dish soap along with enough water to fill it about 1/3 of the way. Blend on high for 15-30 seconds to get it clean in all the right places.
